The progressive John OâShea-trained Old North has opened favourite to win the Phar Lap Stakes 2016 at Rosehill Gardens on Coolmore Classic Day this Saturday in Sydney.

There are just nine three-year-olds left in the mix for this yearâs $175,000 Group 2 Cellarbrations Phar Lap Stakes (1500m) after the early scratching of Intrepid Way (7) from Rosehill Race 6 at 3:30pm (AEDT).
Sitting top of the Phar Lap Stakes odds through Ladbrokes.com.au at a current quote of $2.90 for the win is the Godolphin-raced Lonhro colt Old North.
The nicely-bred youngster is as yet untested in black-type company, but he has won two of his four starts to date including over 1400m when carting 60.5kg to a nearly two length Warwick Farm win on March 2 last time out.
At set weights he drops to 56.5kg this weekend for his Group debut with Sydneyâs best James McDonald retaining the ride.
The next best in betting at $4.60 is the filly Sacred Eye in gate three with Hong Kong-based jockey Brett Prebble jumping aboard the David Hayes & Tom Dabernig-trained daughter of High Chaparral second-up.
In her return on February 20 at Flemington Sacred Eye ran fifth when only two lengths off the winner Donât Doubt Mamma in the Group 3 The Vanity (1400m).
She has her first Sydney run on Saturday against the boys and shoots for a third win at her seventh career start, her latest victory back in Octoberâs Group 2 Edward Manifold Stakes (1600m) over the Flemington mile.
There are two other runners under double figures in the Phar Lap Stakes markets with Single Gaze ($5.50) drawn a treat in barrier two with Kathy OâHara riding and the undefeated Believe ($8.50).
Nick Olive prepares Not A Single Doubt filly Single Gaze out of Canberra, the Magic Millions Guineas runner-up behind Mahuta at the Gold Coast in January coming off another second place effort from a fortnight back.
At Randwick she was second past the post behind Godolphinâs Ghisoni, a smart filly who jumps favourite this weekend in the $600,000 Group 1 Coolmore Classic (1500m).
Believe meanwhile is prepared by Anthony Cummings, the Fastnet Rock filly coming off a win over the track and distance from February 24.
She also won her debut and Kerrin McEvoy stays in the saddle this weekend as she aims to make it three on the trot in her early acid test.
At double figures for an upset Phar Lap Stakes victory include the likes of the Michael Kent-trained son of Sebring Hattori Hanzo ($10), the other OâShea-trained starter Italy ($11) who won the Listed Canberra Guineas (1400m) on March 6 and early market mover Torgersen ($14 into $12) for Chris Waller.
