Sydneyâs Anthony Cummings has confirmed the non-acceptance of one of this seasonâs top Queensland Oaks 2016 hopes Top Of My List who is paddock-bound instead.
An exciting daughter of High Chaparral, Top Of My List is currently rated an $11 chance through Ladbrokes.com.au in the all-in markets for the $500,000 Group 1 Queensland Oaks (2400m) at Eagle Farm Racecourse on June 4.
Despite her spot near the top of betting, led by the Bjorn Baker-trained Gold Coast Bracelet winner from last weekend Imposing Lass ($6), Top Of My List will not continue onto the Brisbane Winter Racing Carnival.
Cummingsâ stable foreman Edward Cummings confirmed the news to Racenet saying the fillyâs bloodwork wasnât 100% after her latest start when runner-up to Imposing Lass on April 23 over 1500m at Rosehill.
She was set to run back at the track last Saturday, but was scratched from the race and will now go for a short let-up before a return later in the winter ahead of the bigger spring prizes.
“We took a blood from her prior to last Saturday and we werenât 100 percent happy with it,â Cummings said.
“Having had the weekend to think about things. The Queensland Oaks seems a step too far. It would be a rush.
“Sheâs a promising filly so weâve decided to give her a short freshen up.
“Weâve sent her out to the water walker for a week, possibly two and there are plenty of races for her through the winter.
“She handles wet tracks, sheâs actually quite adept on them so sheâll get the chance to earn some more prizemoney before the spring.â
As mentioned, Imposing Lass is early Queensland Oaks favourite after her half-length win over Self Esteem at the Gold Coast over 1800m last Saturday.
That was the Makfi fillyâs third win on the trot and her first look at further than 1500m, a nice indication sheâll continue to improve the more distance she runs over.
Gold Coast Bracelet runner-up Self Esteem meanwhile is paying $11 in Queensland Oaks futures markets to turn the tables with a win in next monthâs mile and a half clash.
The Stratum filly is trained by Peter & Paul Snowden and ran ninth to Sofia Rosa in this yearâs Group 1 ATC Oaks (2400m) before the Bracelet.
Co-trainer Peter Snowden shoots for his second Queensland Oaks win this season after his success with Purple back in 2009 who won the Group 1 after a third in Doombenâs Group 3 The Roses (2000m).
The Doomben Roses is the traditional Oaks lead-up and runs this year on Doomben Cup Day, May 21.
It has produced four of the past five Queensland Oaks winners, with the last to complete the double being Scarlett Lady (2011).
Other prominent Oaks hopes this year include the John OâShea-trained ATC Oaks runner-up Ambience ($10) and Snowdenâs other headline nominee Falkenberg ($10) who ran fourth in the Gold Coast Bracelet.
The 2016 Queensland Oaks first acceptances close on May 25 before the final field and barriers are released on June 1 so stay tuned.
