Due to jump as Randwick Race 10 at 5:50pm (AEDT), this season’s $200,000 Group 2 Adrian Knox Stakes (2000m) field features a full 16 starters led in betting at Ladbrokes.com.au by Alaskan Rose ($4.20).

Michael Moroney’s Encosta De Lago filly has her first start in Sydney and the wide barrier (14) to overcome, but is well-fancied by the bookies to make a mark on the back of a third to Felicienne in the Group 3 Matron Stakes (1600m) at Flemington last time out.

This is also her first look at further than a mile and how she handles that, the Sydney way of racing and the wide gate are all key to her chances.

Following very closely in Adrian Knox Stakes betting at $4.80 is the 59kg top weight of the field, the David Hayes & Tom Dabernig-trained Sacred Eye giving the weight away to her rivals.

She is deserving of the kilos however and should get a gun run from barrier three for the in-form Hugh Bowman who rides the daughter of High Chaparral third-up on the back of her fifth to Hattori Hanzo in the Group 2 Phar Lap Stakes (1500m) at Rosehill on March 12.

The last three single figure fancies in the Adrian Knox Stakes odds are the Peter & Paul Snowden-trained Street Cry filly Daisy’s Joy ($7.50) who steps up in class but down in distance off her last run at Gosford, Bulla Baby ($8) for Ron Quinton and Damien Oliver’s mount Rainbow Park ($8.50).

So will the best in the markets be first past the post or is there an upset Adrian Knox Stakes result on the agenda for Saturday’s card closer from the likes of the widely-drawn Heartlings ($11) whose lead-up run was a 12th in the Group 1 Vinery Stud Stakes (2000m) last weekend, Michael Kent’s lightly-raced Alittle Loose ($11) or even the Anthony Cummings-trained last start Wyong winner over 2100m Aurora’s Star ($21)?

1st

#4 Aurora’s Star ($21)

Going for value and a blowout in the last with this Medaglia D’Oro filly backing up off a good Wyong win from March 30 over 2100m on a Heavy (8) track. The distance looks ideal and any rain around will see her odds firm. She is up in class, but deserving of the shot, jockey Jason Collett coming aboard on this good roughie chance.

2nd

#2 Alaskan Rose ($4.20)

Current favourite can be forgiven for the Matron Stakes placing where she was four lengths off the winner, but should have been finishing closer after getting checked in the run. This is her first look at 2000m, but if she handles the extra metres, has luck from the gate and gets a clear run can be right up there on the line.

3rd

#8 Rainbow Park ($8.50)

John Sargent’s Thorn Park filly won over this distance at Kembla Grange on March 19 to break her maiden status at her sixth start. She’s got the first win out of the way now, did it from a wide barrier 12 of 14 draw that day and is drawn to get a smooth run from nine with Oliver in the saddle going down to 54kg (from 55.5kg) so looks a big chance.
